German automaker BMW has announced a partnership with Indian company Tata Technologies to establish a development center dedicated to electric vehicle software.
While BMW has similar facilities in other countries, this collaboration is significant as it leverages India’s vast pool of software engineering talent.
Christoph Grote, BMW’s Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture, stated that the partnership will accelerate advancements in software-defined vehicles. It also provides Indian engineers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge automotive technologies, including highly automated driving and artificial intelligence.
This collaboration benefits both BMW and the Indian tech industry. Initially, the joint venture will involve 100 specialists from Tata Technologies, with plans to expand to over a thousand engineers in the coming years.
The focus will be on automating in-vehicle functions and various aspects of product development, manufacturing, and sales. As BMW intensifies its software initiatives, this partnership is set to enhance the future of its electric vehicles.
